It is of particular interest to golf courses focused on outcompeting Poa annua and improving Microdochium (Fusarium) tolerance of greens. Charles is a new NZ-bred variety, named after Bob Charles, the first left-handed golfer to win a major. Like Bob, it breaks new ground, being ranked #1* by a clear half-point. Its scores for visual merit and shoot density promise to have a major impact as part of a species exchange programme, improving golf greens and out-competing the ubiquitous Poa annua. BarKing is a European-bred variety with exceptional tolerance to Microdochium Patch disease (Fusarium) and superior winter colour.
